I hope this message finds you well. After returning from my two-week trip to Guatemala, things have been non-stop! I wanted to share an important update with you regarding our much-anticipated beach trip for the children at Hogar Miguel Magone.
Roadblock: A Bumpy Ride Ahead
About two weeks before our scheduled trip, a significant section of the main road from Guatemala City to the beach collapsed due to the intense rainy season. This year has brought one of the heaviest rainy seasons in recent memory, resulting in more mudslides, floods, and extensive road damage.
The road that was damaged is crucial, as it connects Guatemala City to one of the country's key ports. While there are alternative routes, they are not designed to handle the increased traffic, turning what should be a two-hour journey into a grueling seven-hour trip.
A Tough Decision
After extensive discussions with Estuardo at Hogar Miguel Magone, we had to make the difficult decision to postpone the beach trip. We've already paid a 50% deposit to the water park, which they kindly agreed to hold until we can reschedule. The good news is, the kids will get their beach day once the road is repaired!
Preparation is Key
Thanks to your incredible support, the trip is fully funded! We managed to bring all the floaties, goggles, sand toys, and other beach essentials from our Amazon Wish List to Guatemala. The t-shirts are ready, and we just need the road to be fixed.
Making the Best of It
Understandably, the children were disappointed about the postponement. To lift their spirits, we took them to see Despicable Me at the movies—a perfect rainy day activity that brought lots of smiles and laughter.
Looking Ahead
The kids are eagerly awaiting the rescheduled beach trip, and I promise to keep you updated as soon as we have a firm date. Your generosity and understanding mean the world to us, and we can’t wait to share the beach day experience with you through photos!
